Cupping Notes
This farm is owned by a man named Gashaw Kinfe Desta. Located in the very remote southwest region of Bench Maji, the farm itself is situated very close to the town of Gesha. From all available evidence, this is the original home of the now world-famous varietal of the same name. A farm visit in 2011 revealed that most of the trees planted on this estate do in fact resemble the Gesha varietal which is now most commonly found in Panama and Costa Rica, with the tall, spindly “Typica” appearance and the 45 degree, upward facing branches at the tops of the trees.
A full natural process coffee, Gashaw has taken great care to ensure that only ultra-ripe red cherries are selected, and then dried properly on raised beds.
In addition to supporting Grounds for Health, the sales from this coffee are going to support a local elementary school in Biftu, called the Lingo School.
